This week, following the Order of the Garter Service in Windsor, the Royals descended upon Ascot’s racing course for the week. In this edition of the Royal Fashion Round-up the sections are separated by day, rather than person, so you can see some of the Royals together in the pictures below.

 

On the first day of Ascot, Her Majesty The Queen was naturally joined in her carriage by The Duke of Edinburgh, alongside the Duke of York and Prince Harry. This year’s races saw Harry making his first appearance at Royal Ascot in the carriage procession.

 

The Queen chose a pale blue crepe coat from Stewart Parvin and a hat from Rachel Trevor Morgan (seehere) to start the week’s races. The coat was collarless and the buttons were decorative with ribbon bows around the button. The hat had a straw base with blue and white/grey toned flowers and sprays. This was the same outfit which was worn to this year’s Easter service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

 

Her Majesty’s brooch is a new piece, forming two swans. It seems to be two large white pearls or, more likely, two white stones with strands of diamonds completing the birds shape. The television commentary during the carriage procession said that the brooch was by G. Collins & Sons, the place of work of Harry Collins, who is The Queen’s personal jeweller and the former Crown Jeweller.

The Duchess of Cornwall also chose a light blue shade for her outfit. Her hat was a large Philip Treacy piece, with a ‘flame-like’ structure to it. This, of course, matched her textured coat dress, which had large pockets. Camilla chose her Van Cleef & Arpels dragonfly brooches, teamed with her seemingly day-to-day choker, which has a clasp holding small diamonds, and a chunky cream clutch. The Duchess’s shoes were cream with a tan heel and toe.

 

The Countess of Wessex, as seen below, also opted for pale blue in this Emilia Wickstead outfit in a textured fabric. It is a dress with a bolero style jacket, which features a collar, 3/4 sleeves and buttons from the waist to the neck. The dress is of a midi-length, falling to the middle of the calf.

 

Sophie’s hat was a bespoke piece from Jane Taylor’s Spring/Summer 2015 line, and she used her new favourite shoes, her ‘Harley’ LK Bennett heels. The picture below gives a great look at the Sophie Habsburg clutch that the Countess seems to favour, which looks to be quite an unusual piece.

 

Sophie attended in the company of Belinda Hadden, the leading lady behind Heavenly Necklaces, of whose lines Sophie has many pieces, however she did not wear any at the races! The Countess chose some unidentified diamond earrings, seemingly disc shaped. The brooch’s maker has also not been distinguished yet, although it seems to be an aquamarine stone to tie into the colour of her outfit.

 

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie also attended the first day at Ascot. Beatrice chose a teal-green floral lace dress from Suzannah. It was a simple dress with 3/4 sleeves and a slightly fitted form. Her hat was a wide-brimmed floppy affair from Sarah Cant in the same shade of green and she carried a nude clutch. Beatrice’s shoes however, were unexpected. They were a pair of Jerome C. Rousseau shoes in a floral print with dazzling gold toe. The stiletto heel also has a slight flare inwards towards the shoe making an unusual piece.

 

Eugenie stuck to a safe cream with a mac style coat, pulled in at the waist with a thin belt. It had a collar and long sleeves, which may have been a tad too snug for the summery weather. Her fascinator was a floral piece, with one large flower and some black sprays beneath it; her hair was tied back to showcase the piece. Eugenie’s shoes were nude peep-toe sandals.

 

The second day of Ascot saw The Queen choose a pale green Angela Kelly ensemble (see here). The silken coat revealed the dress beneath with a deep v-neck, tied at the waist with buttons and a small bow. The collar fanned out, leaving just enough room for the new brooch that we saw during her recent visit to France; a gold and a silver flower, still not formally identified.

 

Her dress was a small floral print with purple, blue and orange hues, and a ruched neckline. These were picked out in Her Majesty’s Rachel Trevor-Morgan hat, in a set of flowers in these colours upon a green base.

 

The Duchess of Cornwall wore a cream coat dress with a subtle leaf detail at the shoulder. She teamed this with a large (more than likely Philip Treacy) hat and cream gloves too. The hat has a sort-of undone bow on the side. Once more, Camilla got out her large pink-stoned choker, and this time she used the earrings too! Normally, these are seen only at evening events (see here). No pictures show Camilla full-length so we can only speculate on her footwear, but cream is a safe bet.

 

The Countess of Wessex chose cream for the day, probably an Emilia Wickstead creation. It looks like a wrap dress but the join was sitting in the centre, as opposed to off to one side as is usually the case. It was in another textured material, with 3/4 sleeves, falling below the knee. Her hat was another bespoke Jane Taylor piece, with a wide base, perched at an angle with a large cream flower beneath it. Sophie’s clutch is an old piece, cream with the opening flap in a weave effect. For shoes, the Countess chose her Jimmy Choo ‘Agnes’ pumps.

 

Sophie wore a diamond double clip brooch, art-deco in style, which was a wedding gift from The Queen Mother. As you will see in the next section, The Queen also has one that belonged to The Queen Mother and it is very similar but with blue stones.

 

The Princess Royal chose this vintage jacket and dress for the occasion (see here). The jacket has an unusual golden weave pattern, and the dress is in a complimentary cream colour. Anne’s hat was a pillbox hat in the same material as the jacket and featured a plain bow on the back.

 

For Ladies Day at Ascot, day three of racing, The Queen opted for a bright turquoise blue coat and hat combination. The coat was simple with large, round buttons and without a collar.

 

Her Majesty wore her mother’s aquamarine double clip brooch, a first outing for this piece. It is worn horizontally and is similar to The Queen’s other aquamarine clip brooches, which can be worn to form a large brooch like this one or, more often, The Queen wears them separately off-set.

 

The Princess Royal chose a cerise pink hat for the occasion, paired with a dark blue, perhaps indigo, coat with floral embroidery on the bottom half, with pink flowers and green leaves, not shown in the picture below. The collar and cuffs are folded and the coat covered a bright pink dress. Anne also chose to wear blue gloves too.

 

Princess Beatrice chose a pop of orange for her day at Ascot. The Sarah Cant hat matched her dark orange dress beneath her white jacket. The jacket has white and black trim on the hems and a chevron at the waist; it also features zips on the sleeves. Beatrice teamed this with a pair of simple black heels.

 

Princess Eugenie also made an appearance, wearing a beige jacket and white dress. This one had a high collar, and wrapped around, also pulled in at the waist with a belt, but sat at the hips instead. Her dress was a white chiffon piece, but we could only see the bottom of it. She teamed this with a Robyn Coles hat; it featured a large rose with a bow twist behind it. Eugenie’s shoes were Kurt Geiger’s ‘Alba’ shoe, featuring a nude patent pointed toe, black heel and ankle straps.

 

The Countess of Wessex attended another day of Ascot; it was also her wedding anniversary on Ladies Day. She chose a black ensemble, (which you can see here) again from Emilia Wickstead. The waffle textured dress had a high neckline, with t-shirt sleeves and hidden pockets, and it was almost full-length. She teamed the dress with her suede and leather mix Bruce Oldfield heels and a quirky black Jane Taylor bespoke hat; there is almost no need to list the designers for Sophie’s choices as these two are her go-to labels for Ascot.

 

The fourth day of Ascot saw Her Majesty in cerise pink (see here). Her hat and coat from Angela Kelly were the same shade, with the coat featuring a rounded collar and v-neck and large, widely spaced buttons fastened the coat. The hat was embellished with delicate sprays of white and pale pink flowers, dotted with black and bright pink feathers.

 

The v-neck revealed a white, pink and black floral print dress with cerise piping along the neckline. White gloves and The Queen’s trusty handbag were her accessories, along with the Saskatchewan flower brooch from designer Rachel Mielke, which was a gift from the province’s Lieutenant Governor in 2013. It is an 18k white gold piece with five abstract-shaped petals of Madagascan tourmaline in varying shades of pink, with each petal being bordered by tiny diamonds. In the centre is a pearl, also bordered by diamonds; this is only the second outing of the brooch, as it is quite a new piece.

 

On the final day at the races we saw The Queen wear a baby pink coat dress, fastened with one button at the neck, and slightly padded shoulders. This fastening allowed us to see her dress, whose print was very on trend: a white, pale pink and grey large flower print. Her brooch was the gold rose brooch featuring two flower heads and stems in a rose gold, but we know little else about this piece, other than it first appeared in 2012.

 

Princess Beatrice made another appearance at Ascot in a dark pink t-shirt style dress. She teamed this with some gold beaded necklaces, a cream clutch and a cuff with decorative holes.The Princess’s shoes were summery wedges with a raffia heel and cream straps, and her fascinator was also a nude colour.

 

Princess Eugenie chose a red coat, similar to the cream one worn on the first day. This had a belt and collar, and covered a red and blue patterned heart dress. Her shoes were black minimalist pointed heels with ankle straps, and Eugenie’s hat was a wide-brimmed red piece.
